About the Sennheiser AMBEO Soundbar | Max

Emily S.

A jaw-dropping demo

When I got to hear this sound bar, our trainer played a sneaky but effective trick. He said he was going to put the Sennheiser AMBEO Max up against a standard system. First, he'd play a Dolby Atmos demo with a standard 5.1.4 system using a receiver, subwoofer, and a bunch of speakers placed precisely around the room.

With three speakers up front, two in the back, and four for overhead effects, the traditional system sounded great — obviously. Then he told us that it was all actually coming from the AMBEO bar, and I saw more than a few jaws drop.

Sennheiser AMBEO sound bar

The AMBEO Max sound bar's brushed aluminum exterior has a graphic OLED display with brightness sensor.

How does it work?

The bar uses room calibration to capture the characteristics of your space and the objects and surfaces in it. Once calibrated, the bar's AMBEO 3D technology can “virtually” place speakers around your room to create an enveloping surround sound experience from a single bar, no matter what you're watching. It sounds far-fetched, but I've heard it, and it knocked my socks off.

More oohs and ahs

When our trainer played the Live Aid scene from the movie “Bohemian Rhapsody,” I was impressed by the precise and detailed sound the AMBEO Max delivered. The near-silent anticipation of a packed Wembley stadium followed by the surge of the crowd as Freddie began to sing gave me the chills.

The bar has 13 individual drivers, including six 4-inch long-throw woofers that play down to an impressive 30 Hz. But I should note that because of the large size of our training room, this particular demo used the bar's convenient mono RCA subwoofer output to bring some extra oomph to the low end.

Dial in the sound you want

You can choose from several preset sound modes, including movie, music, and sports. There are also four AMBEO settings that adjust the amount of 3D sound processing: light, standard, boost, or off. And if you want to truly personalize your audio experience, you can dig into equalizer settings using the Smart Control mobile app.

AMBEO bar

It's great for music, too

Whether you want to stream your favorite Spotify® playlist, shuffle all your Pandora® stations, or listen to your downloaded songs, this sound bar has you covered with Wi-Fi®, Bluetooth®, and Chromecast capabilities built in.

And the AMBEO Max bar is beefy — probably the biggest by weight and volume that I've ever seen. That bulk houses a lot of high-quality drivers that provide a depth and clarity to music that you won't find in most sound bars. And the bar's “Upmix Technology” can turn stereo or 5.1 audio into an immersive 3D experience. We got to hear this demoed on “Hotel California” and it was very cool.

Active Soundbar Speaker: The Sennheiser AMBEO Soundbar Max combines support for Dolby Atmos and DTS:X (up to 5.1.4ch) with the latest in virtualization technology and auto room calibration for an immersive surround sound experience from one active soundbar speaker. By capturing the characteristics of your living room and reflective surfaces, and using AMBEO virtualization technology, the soundbar merges with the acoustics of your room environment to create a 3D sound experience. Its thirteen independent drivers, along with the AMBEO technology, produce three-dimensional sound that puts you in the center of the action. The AMBEO Soundbar Max not only sounds great, but also looks great too, thanks to its brushed aluminum exterior.

Multichannel Driver Array: Powered by thirteen high-performance drivers, the AMBEO Soundbar Max delivers a 5.1.4ch sound experience while also producing extremely deep 30Hz bass without the need for an extra subwoofer. The Sennheiser AMBEO Soundbar Max's multichannel driver array consists of front-firing, side-firing, and top-firing drivers. On the front of the AMBEO Soundbar Max are five 1" aluminum dome tweeters and four 4" cellulose-sandwich cone long-throw woofers for the Front, Center, and Surround channels. There are also two angled side-firing 4" cellulose-sandwich cone long-throw woofers (one on each side) for the Surround channels. On top of the soundbar are two top-firing 3.5" full-range drivers for the Dolby Atmos and DTS:X elevation effects channels.

AMBEO Virtualization Technology: AMBEO is a state-of the-art 3D virtualization technology with 32-bit digital signal processing that delivers an incredibly immersive surround sound experience from a single speaker component for practically any content and in almost any room. The AMBEO Soundbar Max uses reflections off the walls to virtually position speakers in the room by calibrating its acoustics based on the room characteristics and the individual seating position. The result, is sound information from all directions around the main listening area. Using the Smart Control app for Apple iOS and Android, you can select between four AMBEO 3D modes - Light, Standard, Boost, or Off.

  • The best acoustic results occur with the soundbar speaker 3.3' to 16.4' to the left wall, to the ceiling, and to the right wall. However, if there are any walls that are further away, reflections will still work but they may be slightly delayed.
  • When positioning the soundbar, keep in mind that the sound is reflected by walls and ceilings. Many curtains, thick carpets, and other absorbent surfaces can affect the 3D spatial sound.

Auto Room Calibration: The AMBEO Soundbar Max uses wall reflections to virtually position speakers in the room, so it requires an exact calculation and room-based adjustment of the acoustics. Because most rooms do not offer perfect acoustic characteristics, the automatic room calibration microphone provided with the AMBEO Soundbar Max is necessary to adapt the soundbar speaker's sound to the room surroundings and successfully work with the reflections off the wall.

  • The auto calibration process only takes a few minutes to complete. The room calibration should be performed when the soundbar is put into operation for the first time in a room, the position of the soundbar has been changed, a powered subwoofer has been connected or disconnected, or the room has been changed (furniture moved around).
  • The auto calibration microphone should be placed on the main listening seat in front of the soundbar and positioned approximately at ear height during normal listening. The auto calibration microphone's cable plugs into the 2.5mm jack on the front of the soundbar speaker.
  • High volume test tones will be played through the sound bar (avoid disturbing surrounding noises). The auto calibration process will take several minutes to complete.

Note: The auto room calibration is necessary for the measurement of your room in order to let you get the optimum spatial sound experience.

High Resolution Multichannel Formats: The Sennheiser AMBEO Soundbar Max utilizes a dual-core 1.2GHZ ARM Cortex-A7 processor and two dual-core 500MHz SHARC digital signal processors for support of high resolution multichannel audio formats.

Digital Audio Connector Audio Signal Type Audio Signal Format
HDMI High Definition Audio Bitstream Dolby Atmos, Dolby Digital Plus, Dolby TrueHD,
DTS:X, DTS-HD Master Audio, DTS-HD High Resolution
Bitstream Dolby Digital, DTS, DTS ES, DTS 96/24
PCM 2ch, 5.1ch, 7.1ch
Optical Bitstream Dolby Digital, DTS, DTS ES, DTS 96/24
PCM 2ch, 5.1ch, 7.1ch

Immersive Surround Sound: The Sennheiser AMBEO Soundbar Max is capable of delivering up to 5.1.4-channel surround for Dolby Atmos & DTS:X through its HDMI inputs and HDMI eARC output.

  • Dolby Atmos: With Dolby Atmos sound comes alive from all directions, including overhead, to fill your home theater with astonishing clarity, power, detail, and depth. Rather than being constrained to channels, sounds exist as individual entities that are precisely placed and moved in three-dimensional space. A new sensation of height immerses you in the action, creating a full audio atmosphere and realistically depicting objects moving overhead. Dolby Atmos renders everything from dialogue to quiet scenes to whirlwind action with astonishing clarity, richness, detail, and depth. It all comes together in sound that excites your senses and inspires your emotions to deliver the full impact of entertainment.
  • DTS:X: DTS:X is the next generation object-based, multi-dimensional audio technology from DTS. Unbound from channels, DTS:X conveys the fluid movement of sound to create an incredibly rich, realistic and immersive soundscape - in front of, behind, beside and above the audience - more accurately than ever before. DTS:X offers the ability to automatically adapt the audio to the speaker layout that best fits your space.

Notes:

  • To enjoy Dolby Atmos and DTS:X, you should connect the HDMI output of your Blu-ray player, satellite receiver/cable box, and game console directly to the AMBEO Soundbar Max's three HDMI inputs.
  • Your TV must be equipped with a HDMI eARC input to send Dolby Atmos and DTS:X signal to the soundbar. If your TV is only equipped with an HDMI ARC input, the Dolby Atmos and DTS:X audio signal will be downmixed to Dolby Digital or DTS.
  • The soundbar's optical (toslink) digital input only supports Dolby Digital (5.1ch), DTS (5.1ch), and 2ch PCM.

Dolby Audio Settings: The Sennheiser AMBEO Soundbar Max offers several unique settings specifically designed for your Dolby Audio content. These settings are found in the Smart Control app on your compatible Apple iOS or Android device.

  • Dolby Virtualizer: Dolby Virtualizer transforms 2ch stereo and 5.1 multi-channel content into immersive surround sound with virtual rear and overhead effects from one speaker component.
  • Dolby DRC: This function compresses the dynamics of the Dolby Audio signal, thus shrinking the audible volume level change between soft and loud passages. Dolby DRC can be set to Normal, Heavy, Auto, or Off.
  • Dolby Dialog Normalizer: This function makes dialog from Dolby Audio content easier to understand by reducing loud music/background noise and amplifying softer dialog passages.

Equalizer: The AMBEO Soundbar Max lets you tailor your listening experience with a built-in Sound Profiles, a 4-Band EQ, and Night Mode.

  • Sound Profiles: Sound Profiles include Movie, Music, News, Sports, and Neutral.
  • 4-Band EQ: The 4-Band EQ (Foundation [bass], Low-Mid [midbass], Clarity [midrange], Brilliance [treble]) features an adjustment range of -10dB to +10dB.
  • Night Mode: Night Mode allows you to enjoy late night movies with clear dialog and sound effects even at low volume levels.

HDMI Connectivity: The Sennheiser AMBEO Soundbar Max is equipped with three HDMI 2.0a inputs and one HDMI 2.1/eARC output. The three HDMI inputs allow you to connect your Blu-ray player, cable/satellite box, and game console directly to the soundbar and then from its HDMI eARC output to your flat-panel TV. The HDMI inputs and output are HDCP 2.2 compatible and support 4K Pass-Through, as well as HDR video.

  • 4K/60Hz + HDCP 2.2: The soundbar's HDMI 2.0a inputs and HDMI 2.1 output can pass 4K ultra-HD video @ 60Hz, as well as 1080p, 1080i, 720p, and 480p video. The soundbar's HDMI inputs and output support HDCP 2.2, which fully complies with the latest copyright protection standard for 4K video transmission.
  • HDR (High Dynamic Range) Video: HDR delivers a much higher level of contrast between light and dark to produce an image that is more realistic and closer to what the content creator imagined. This increased contrast reveals the subtle nuances of the image, from detailed blacks and shadows to the brightest whites and colors, plus greater depth. The AMBEO Soundbar Max offers support for HDR 10 and Dolby Vision.

eARC (Enhanced Audio Return Channel): Along with standard ARC (Audio Return Channel), the AMBEO Soundbar Max will support eARC (Enhanced Audio Return Channel) through the use of its HDMI 2.1 output. ARC and eARC allows audio to be sent from your compatible TV to the soundbar system through the same HDMI cable already being used to send audio and video to your television. This eliminates the need for extra cables connected to your television. eARC will support uncompressed audio formats like Dolby TrueHD, Dolby Atmos, DTS:X, & DTS HD Master Audio - where standard ARC is limited to Dolby Digital, Dolby Digital Plus, DTS, DTS HD, and PCM.

  • Your TV will also need to support eARC or ARC for this feature to work. Some newer TVs will support eARC, but most TVs only support ARC.
  • The ARC-enabled HDMI input on some TVs will only pass 2ch PCM from devices connected to the TV via HDMI or analog, we recommend that you connect your Blu-ray/DVD player, Satellite/Cable box, or Gaming console to the soundbar system directly; and then connect the system's ARC-enabled HDMI output to your TV's ARC-enabled HDMI input. This setup will give you with the best overall sound performance.

Digital & Analog Audio Inputs: The AMBEO Soundbar Max is equipped with an optical (toslink) digital input which supports 2ch PCM, Dolby Digital (5.1ch), and DTS (5.1ch); up to 24-bit/192kHz. The AMBEO Soundbar Max also features an analog Auxiliary input that consists of stereo RCA jacks to plug in your external legacy device; some TVs may require and stereo RCA-to-minijack adapter (sold separately).

Note: The digital optical output terminals of most flat-panel TVs only send a Dolby Digital or DTS audio signal when receiving Dolby Digital/DTS surround sound from the TV's built-in tuner, network connection, or connected USB device; and will output only 2ch PCM from sources connected to the TV via HDMI, or RCA (like your Blue-ray/DVD player or satellite/cable box).

Subwoofer Output: The Sennheiser AMBEO Soundbar Max is outfitted with a mono-RCA subwoofer output for connecting a powered sub (sold separately - see Accessories Tab) for even deeper and more immersive bass. When connecting a powered sub, set the subwoofer's volume level to approximately 50% and its low pass crossover to the maximum setting. The AMBEO Soundbar Max's auto calibration will take care of setting the soundbar's subwoofer output level and low pass crossover frequency.

Note: The AMBEO Soundbar Max can be connected to the Sennheiser AMBEO Sub (sold separately) via a hardwired subwoofer cable connection. However, the Soundbar Max does not support a wireless connection to the AMBEO Sub.

Google Assistant Voice Control: Purchase a Google Assistant enabled wireless speaker (sold separately - see Accessories Tab) and gain voice control of compatible Chromecast built-in music apps. You'll be able to access a specific music app and then select a specific station or song using only your voice. You'll also have voice control over Play, Pause, Skip, & Volume. The AMBO Soundbar & the Google Assistant enabled device must be connected to the same wireless (WiFi) network.

  • The AMBEO Soundbar Max is not equipped with a built-in microphone and requires an external Google Assistant device for voice control.
  • Google Assistant Voice Control is limited to Chromecast built-in apps, playback functions, and volume control. You cannot control other functions of the soundbar speaker with your voice.

Mounting Options: The AMBEO Soundbar Max can simply be placed on a tabletop or shelf, or wall-mounted using Sennheiser's SB01-WM wall-mount bracket (sold separately). The correct placement of the AMBEO Soundbar Max is important for optimum sound performance.

  • The soundbar speaker should be centered below the TV. The distance of the soundbar to the TV should be at least 3.9".
  • The main listening seat (optimal "sweet-spot") should be positioned centrally in from of the soundbar and have a distance of at least 6.5' to the speaker.
  • The distance of the AMBEO Soundbar Max to the side walls should ideally be the same, so the soundbar speaker is centered in the room. The optimum distance between the soundbar and the walls is between 3.3' and 16.4'.
  • There must be no objects that block the sound or have a strong sound-absorbing effect (such as furniture, curtains, etc) between the soundbar and the side walls and the ceiling of the room.
  • The distance of the soundbar to the ceiling should be between 3.3' to 16.4' (it should not exceed 16.4'). The ceiling should be flat and horizontal (not pitched roof or domed roof).

Note: Inadequate ventilation may cause the soundbar speaker to overheat. Do not place any objects on the soundbar and keep adequate clearance around the speaker for proper ventilation.

Standby Modes: The Sennheiser AMBEO Soundbar Max offers Auto Standby and ECO Standby to conserve energy. Both standby modes can be activated or deactivated within the Smart Control app on your compatible Apple iOS or Android device.

  • Auto Standby: If the AMBEO Soundbar Max is inactive (without an audio signal) for 20 minutes, it will automatically switch to standby mode. The time duration can be adjusted or the feature turned off.
  • ECO Standby: When ECO Standby is activated, the soundbar's power consumption is lessened. However, the boot-up time for the Soundbar will take longer.

Q
Will this work in a room that is 25x20 with a 12' flat ceiling ?
doug  Mar 06, 2024
1 answer
A
I see no reason why not, Doug. We tested the Ambeo Soundbar Max here at Crutchfield in a room much larger and it sounded fantastic. With the flat ceiling, you will have the great results with the upward-firing drivers as they bounce off the flat ceiling and back down to your ears.

Q
I see that this soundbar has 3 hdmi inputs. So can you connect an external blu-ray player running dolby atmos content and expect it output atmos decoded sound properly? Can you connect a turntable or does this need to be done via some other equipment?
dave  Jan 26, 2024
1 answer
A
Greetings Dave. Thank you for your questions. The Ambeo Max experience cannot be put in words other than WOW. Yes it can play Dolby Atmos when it is put in either via Blu-ray disc, or eARC out of the TV. A sound bar maybe not the best highway to drive on when listening to vinyl, but it has a 2 channel RCA input. The turntable would either need a built in phono preamp, or turntables that does not have that built in, would need an external preamp before connecting it.

Q
Does this include isolation feet pads on the bottom for placing on a flat hard surface? If so, how tall are the feet and are they removable?
gary  Mar 29, 2023
1 answer
A
Greetings Gary, and thank you for your question. Feet pads come attached, and can be removed. If removed, the bar will sit 0.393 inches lower. With feet it will be 5.314 inches tall, and 4.921 with feet removed.
hogan  Mar 29, 2023 (Staff)
Q
Does this include any type of isolation/ rubber feet in its bottom to be placed on a solid TV stand? If so, how tall are the feet?
gary  Mar 28, 2023
1 answer
A
Thank you for your question, Gary. The Sennheiser AMBEO Max does have feet that are pre-installed on the bottom of the sound bar. It has a total height of 5-5/16". I recommend giving one of our Advisors a call to discuss which sound bar is right for your set up at 1.800.324.9695

Q
Can it be wall mounted on the wall under the tv ? It looks heavy so wondering if it comes with brackets to do so
rvrrf  Nov 22, 2021
2 answers
A
It's extremely heavy. You would need a shelf and make sure you mount the shelf on the house studs.
robert  Nov 22, 2021
A
It can, brackets are available separately. I would be cautious about doing so as it requires at least 8 inches spacing from the wall per Sennheiser support (does not state this anywhere in the documentation). We had an issue with ours overheating (was 6 inches from the wall). I had to put an active fan behind it after we RMA'd one.

The sound bar does not calibrate my subwoofer, but the subwoofer works with the sound bar. I don't know what the problem is ?

I would suggest to get/pay for a professional installer to assist you. Crutchfield will recommend someone to you who can assist. I will be adding a small sub down the road. This is the best I can do for you.
warren e  Jan 19, 2021
A
The sound does not calibrate the subwoofer per se, however, the soundbar will calibrate itself with respect to the subwoofer of connected during the room eq setup. The trick is to set up the subwoofer with neutral settings and leave your sennheiser app setting full control of bandwidth adjustments.

When connected with hdmi arc, does the soundbar settings show on your tv? Example : volume, speaker levels, input, and bass and treble and any other settings?

A
yes it shows on TV. you have to download the software on cwll phone to adjust the EQ
michael  Feb 13, 2021
A
No, at least not on my LG OLED. There's a one-line display on the front of the soundbar that shows the value of whatever parameter you are adjusting.

Q
Without a sub, how's the bass response? If I watch John Wick - for instance - will this punch like a home theater system with a sub? Additionally, how does it do with bass heavy music? I listen to a lot of metal, and most of the time they have a double bass petal. I love good concert style punch... Does this deliver?
jean  Nov 19, 2020
4 answers
A
If you're used to a sub, you're going to want a sub. The sound quality is superb, but you're not going to get the deep and punchy bass you're talking about.
dave  Dec 04, 2020
A
It's the best sounding bar I've heard - not even close. I don't use a subwoofer with mine but it does have the outs to add one if you like. If you want the walls shaking, you'll need a subwoofer. If you want impressive, well mixed sound, this is a great choice,
richard  Dec 04, 2020
A
The response is pretty good without a sub but not good enough for the bass level you're looking for. I'd get the sub. I added a sub and I noticed the difference.
babak  Dec 04, 2020
A
It has a punch. A definite little kick you can feel but if you want the classic deep rumble you feel in your chest you still need a sub and that's with any system.

Do I need to sit in the center(calibration microphone location)to enjoy the virtual surround? What if I sit on the side of the room, will the sound come awkward?
alialzyoud  Oct 17, 2020

The sound is very natural in all areas of the room. The surround effect is more noticeable when seated in the center.

Can you add rear channel speakers to this?
froggy  Oct 16, 2020
5 answers
A
No, I don't believe you can. You can add a sub, though.
michael  Oct 17, 2020
A
There is no need to.
ryan  Oct 17, 2020
A
This does not support rear speakers (it's meant to obviate the need for same). It does support a powered subwoofer. BTW: Sounds great!
richard john  Oct 16, 2020
A
Hi Froggy, This is a fantastic soundbar, I researched several high-end units before investing in the AMBEO, very happy I did. I'm not sure you can add rear channel speakers, I haven't tried it. But it may worth looking into it. While the sound I get is excellent, it does not do as well as my previous 7.1 system; it could be because my room has an unusual shape, high sloped ceiling and a few openings, rear channel speakers may help if it can be done.
charles j  Oct 16, 2020
A
Not easily, but if you want rear channel speakers, you don't need this soundbar. The whole point of the Ambeo is that it produces directional wavefront that bounce off the walls, creating an immersive sound field without rear speakers. If your walls and ceiling are reflective (painted hard surfaces, not carpet or heavy drapes), the technology is extremely effective.

I saw some reviews say it get very warm, sometimes I have my TV running all day, so should I worry this soundbar can overheat?
alialzyoud  Oct 08, 2020

A
I have had this for 6 months and no problems as of now
vijnan  Oct 08, 2020
A
It does get very warm, so you probably would not want it too close to your TV. 6"- 8" of space between the sound bar and the TV should be enough to let the sound bar breathe without doing any damage to your TV or the sound bar itself.
dave  Oct 08, 2020
A
I does run warm but I have no issues with mine after almost a year. It needs air gaps space to create the correct wrap sound

I have never had this problem or any problem with this soundbar. It is in fact amazing, and I am happy I bought it.

I am considering purchasing a sennheiser amber sound bar. My question is:: can I opeate 2 svs pb-1000 powered subs with this? I know I van one for sure with the sub out. Is there another way?

There is a port for adding a subwoifer. I believe you need to have it wired. But, call Sennheiser (Connecticut) and ask fir customer service. They will be glad to assist. Enjoy! Warren
warren e  Dec 24, 2019
A
Don't know for sure Lucas, but I don't think so. I can't think of how AMBEO would communicate with a wireless subwoofer not designed by Sennheiser. Maybe a question better answered by Sennheiser. I connected my Velodyne subwoofer and works great.
charles j  Dec 24, 2019
A
It doesn't have that ability built-in. However, because it has a line-level subwoofer output you can connect any powered subwoofer you want - including one that uses a wireless transmitter. If you want help selecting a sub/ transmitter you can connect with one of our friendly product advisors here: https://www.crutchfield.com/I-rET1c290/S-SUliZgSTXG7/support/ContactUs.aspx
casey  Dec 23, 2019 (Staff)
A
No, the Sennheiser AMBEO Soundbar does not natively support a wireless subwoofer. However, it does have a subwoofer output via an RCA plug, so if you have a powered subwoofer with an RCA jack input, you could purchase a "wireless subwoofer adapter" (less than $100, just make sure it uses RCA connectors), and you would have your wireless subwoofer. Q
I have this ambeo soundbar and it's great. Fantastic sound and easy to use. However, I also have a Velodyne F1800R powered subwoofer and I cannot get it to work/calibrate when plugging into this soundbar. I just get failure messages. Anybody have any idea why I can't get my subwoofer to work with this unit?
bret  Nov 28, 2019
1 answer
A
First, unplug the sub cable from the sounder (it will fail calibration if anything is plugged into the RCA jack at first). Second, connect your phone and update the firmware. Third, run calibration WITHOUT the Sub. Fourth, reconnect the sub... Play some audio so the sub turns on... and THEN re-try the calibration.
wayne  Dec 06, 2019
Q
My understanding is that the AMBEO gets the surround effect by bouncing the sound off the walls and the ceiling. One end of our TV room does not have a wall (completely open - leads to a kithchen). Otherwise the room is 12 x 12 x 12 feet with a 9 foot ceiling. Does anyone have any first hand experience with this type of open floor plan? If so, how were the surround effects?
wayne  Nov 27, 2019
2 answers
A
We have an open floor plan, and the living room TV area, about the same size as yours, is located off to one side. The left side of the listening area is open to the kitchen/dining area. On top of that, the room has a vaulted ceiling, 8' on right side, peaking off to the left side at 10'. Safe to say not an ideal location for a home theater. However, I was pleasantly surprised at AMBEO performance - it sounds amazing - and at the position of the calibration microphone (i.e., the prime listening area) I could not detect any noticeable sound image imbalance. Our AMBEO is installed at 40" height above floor, centered under a wall-mounted 65" TV. The AMBEO is not wall-mounted. It sits on top of an antique cabinet with the rear of the AMBEO about 1" from the wall. Later I installed an Infinity SUB R12 subwoofer, not because the AMBEO needed it, but because I already had that subwoofer on-hand from a former install (better to put it to use rather than have it take up storage space in my office!). I use it only for low freq effects with crossover set to min/60 Hz (it does enhance "feel" of very low frequency). Good luck! Enter an answer to this question.
richard john  Dec 23, 2019
A
I know no one has messaged back on this. My apologies there as we also don't have first hand experience in a room like you described. For what it's worth, if that open area which leads to the kitchen is at the back of the room, I'd expect the only downfall to be linked to the surround audio portion of the content you're playing

Q
Does this sound bar have to be out in the open or can it rest on a shelf below the tv?
susan  Nov 24, 2019

A
As long as the upward and side speakers have a clear path to the ceiling and walls respectively you can either put it on a shelf or mount it on the wall.
tommie  Nov 25, 2019
A
I have mine on 2 brackets below the tv
jeff  Nov 24, 2019
A
I have mine on the table but a wall mount is an option. I had to raise my TV with bricks because the Ambeo is so large.
terry  Nov 24, 2019
A
Yes it can rest on a shelf. As long as the drivers are not blocked by anything.
paul  Nov 24, 2019
A
As long as the top speakers are not blocked, it should be fine.
antonio  Nov 24, 2019
A
Yes it can be placed on a shelf below the television. The installation instructions suggest a space of at least 10cm (4 inches) between the top of the soundbar and anything above it. I set mine up on a shelf that way and it sounds fantastic!
george  Nov 24, 2019
A
It can rest on a shelf below the TV but just remember this is heavy about 40 pounds
vijnan  Nov 24, 2019
A
It can stay on shelf below tv. I would not recommend in enclosed area though since it has up firing speakers to create Atmos effect which you will not be able to avail and that's what you are paying such high price for

Q
Is the AMBEO good for listening to stereo music ?
james  Nov 20, 2019
4 answers
A
It sounds very good. The Ambeo surround sound mode is much better, one of the best I've heard. My opinion regarding the stereo mode is consistent with the other popular reviews out there which suggest it could be improved, But I am comparing it to my expensive tower speakers. Overall I am very happy that I purchased it for my bigger room.

With a hugh quality DVD player. Even though a subcwoofer is not necessary, i would add obe. Enjoy!
warren e  Nov 21, 2019
A
Its excellent, with powerful lows for not having a dedicated sub included. That said if your primary genres are bass heavy you might still want to add sub for that thunderous deep bass. Otherwise it handles everything with ease.

Q
Can an A/V receiver be hooked up to this sounder?
mark  Aug 17, 2019

Receivers and soundbars dont generally work well together, as the output of an AV receiver is video only because the receiver is what handles the sound.

Q
Has anyone tested using this device with wireless headphones (for those of us who need to be able to listen without disturbing others sometimes)? If so, how is the lag/lipsyncing? My LG OLED TV's bluetooth connection results in so much lag that it's unwatchable. Even with adjusting the audio timing, it can't get close. So I am currently using a long cord with my headphones plugged into my receiver, which I couldn't do if I replaced the receiver with this. Thanks!

Connect you components (cable box, Xbox, DVD player) directly to the sound bar and then use the HDMI out on the sound bar to the TV. This fixes everything related to audio sync issues. No adjustments needed.

I cannot answer your question, since i have a back up system, which i use for critical listening. May i suggest you place a call to Sennheiser and they will readily assist.

Q
Can the Sennheiser Ambeo Soundbar be paired with a multi-room speaker from another manufacturer or would I be required to have a separate system?
matthew  Jul 15, 2019

A
Will it pair with SVS PB16-Ultra?
charles  Sep 30, 2019
A
The AMBEO Sounbar is Google Chromecast enabled which means it acts like a Google Home client (no mic for voice control). IN other words, if you have other Google Home (Chromecast) clients from google or another manufacturer, they can be grouped and play streaming audio content in a multi-room environment.
aaron  Aug 02, 2019
A
I know that you can connect an additional subwoofer but not a whole multi room speaker system. The outputs on the soundbar are HDMI eARC and the subwoofer.
