The events of BioShock Infinite are set prior to those of earlier games in the series and unrelated. Yet although unrelated, the action in the game contains a familiar flavor and flare, with a combination of human and mechanized opposition, a variety of physical and personal biological weapons, and a distinctive storyline and setting. Additional features include, the brand-new hero Booker DeWitt, the aerial city of Columbia, the vigors/nostrums biological abilities system, and a variety of strategies to use against foes. A Brand-new BioShock Adventure Set in the Sky BioShock Infinite is a whole new BioShock adventure set in the new environment of Columbia, an immense city in the sky. Players assume the role of a down-on-his luck former Pinkerton agent Booker DeWitt, sent to Columbia in 1912 to rescue Elizabeth, a young woman imprisoned there since childhood. DeWitt will develop a relationship with Elizabeth, augmenting his abilities with hers so the pair may escape from a city that is literally falling from the sky. You will learn to fight foes in high-speed Skyline battles, engage in combat both indoors and outdoors, and harness the power of dozens of new weapons and abilities. Gameplay Although BioShock Infinite is a whole new adventure, set away from the underwater city of Rapture featured in earlier games in the series, its gameplay mechanics are familiar. Initially the player is tasked with finding and rescuing the character, Elizabeth, a captive within the city for the majority of her life. In searching for her, the open-air city is traversed by foot as well as the "Skyline," a rail system that the player connects to manually via a handheld grapple type tool. Elizabeth's imprisonment is a mystery, and she and thus the player are pursued by a variety of enemies, human and mechanical. Primary among these is "Songbird," a robotic birdlike creature, and Elizabeth's one-time guardian/jailer. It wants her back. Players can utilize a variety of strategies in combat, including attacks, stealth, and hacking. In combat weapons are available, such as sniper rifle, machine gun, shotgun, pistol, rocket launcher, and of course, their fists. The game also features chemical based weapons in the form of vigors and nostrums. These function similarly to the plasmids and tonics used in earlier BioShock games, with vigors granting access to actively used powers and abilities, and nostrums passively bolstering an overall condition, for example, improved health, strength or damage resistance.

Addicting Game

The storyline this game has to offer is one of the best storylines ever told in a video game. The gameplay is great and the world itself (columbia) is just something you need to watch to truly appreciate. This game is as good as the original bioshock, and that's saying something because bioshock 1 is one of the best games ever made.

I bought this game for my husband and he loves it.

Great game

Bioshock Infinite is a well crafted and gorgeous game. I played the original Bioshock which creeped me out with its haunting atmosphere... Infinite has a slightly different tone and it never got too nerve racking... which I liked.

Graphics are wow... just wow. Anywhere you look is like a beautiful painting. The environment is very unique and you can tell that the artists wanted you to look at it with literal "Sight Seeing" points throughout the game. Doesn't disappoint.

Gameplay offers many weapons and "tonics" which give you special abilities. They're pretty fun to play around with and each ability has two uses, generally a short range vs long range, or a single shot vs bomb types. Using your abilities in tandem will also create some neat effects, which again is fun to experiment with as you take down your enemies. Also, you'll have a companion, Elizabeth. I wont spoil why she's there or even who she is, but she helps you along your way by collecting ammo and money for you. She also offers a unique ability that I also don't want to spoil, but it's pretty neat.

Part of the reason I gave this game 4 stars and not 5 is simply the repetitiveness of the game... Generally you go from beautiful environment to beautiful environment, mow down the enemies in the area and then scavenge for supplies. Rinse, repeat. True, some of the battles take place in neat locations, and I especially like the battles where you hook onto zipline-like rails that let you get away fast and then come back in with guns a blazing. There were a couple "boss" type battles which livened things up a bit as well, so maybe I'm being too harsh, but the overall feeling I got was that I was doing much of the same things over and over again til I got to the end.

Story was great and touches on many racial and religious themes... BUT I wish it told more of the story through the actions I took in the game. Much of the story is told through "Voxophones" which gave an enormous amount of backstory, but were simply audio recordings. I just wish they didn't simply tell me about the world, but instead showed it to me. I realize that's hard to do, but the entire game was basically a big mystery and you really didn't get much new information throughout much of the game... it wasn't until the very end cinematic where they spill the beans and tell you everything. It's an amazing ending in that regard and was not disappointing at all, but I wish more of the story was unraveled during the game.

Overall, a great game. Well crafted and a joy to wander about. Honestly, the ending alone is worth any negative points I mentioned. You can tell a lot of care went into making this game. I'd definitely recommend it, just be sure to listen to as many Voxophones as you can because I think you'll get more out of the story that way.

Simply Great

I wasn't sure what to expect with this installment of the Bioshock series, but I knew that if they paid attention to detail like they had with the previous titles, it would be a great game. I have to say, I wasn't disappointed. They even work in some mentions/easter eggs from the previous games.

The graphics are very good. Still a little campy, in the style of Bioshock, but overall, good graphics and design. The soundtrack and audio are both AMAZING! Well produced and choreographed to the situation. The story is a little awkward in places, but still enjoyable. Finally, the gameplay is everything you've come to expect from Bioshock... My only complaints about the game are a.) you can't carry any inventory b.) the game makes bookmark saves every so often and they take an additional amount of hard drive space in addition to your autosaves. If you don't have a lot of room on your PS3 hard drive, you're probably going to have to delete some files to finish this game. Just a warning
